Mold Compound Operator
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Manufactures mold compounds for use in the production of wire wound resistors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Draws necessary raw material from stock for manufacturing a variety of molding compounds, as called out by drawing number or DPS.
Mixes raw materials into specific lots of molding compound using existing formulas determined by specification
Submits samples of each lot to line engineer for test and acceptance.
Assures all materials issued to production are labeled with lot number, RR number, batch number, date of manufacture, DPS number and any other information that may be required.
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Three months to one year experience required.
Skills / Certifications
Equipment Utilization: Operates horizontal blender, mixers, platform scale, extruder, cooling conveyor, and granulator.
Also operates material handling equipment ie: Forklift, pallet jack, and barrel cart
Must have ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations using pounds, ounces, grams, etc
Must have ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
Ability to do moderate to heavy lifting in order to lift and handle containers of raw material and finished compound.
Good interpersonal and communication skills in order to work in harmony with line material handlers, supervision and engineering.
Mobility to easily move, bend, stretch and lift in order to perform physical requirements of position.
Physically capable of using a respirator which is required.
Other required PPE, ear protection, coveralls, gloves, and safety glasses.

What You Will Be Doing
Operates different types of molding machines in order to produce metal castings for LSI customers.
Checks the shop packet for general and part specific work instructions.
Ensures proper placement of chills in molds.
Assembles flask, pattern and follow board on molding table of machine.
Sifts sand over pattern, using riddle, and fills flask with sand by opening hopper or using shovel.
Packs sand around pattern contours, using ramming tool or pneumatic hammer.
Cuts pouring spout and vents in mold, using sprue cutter and wire. Lifts cope half of flask off drag half and removes pattern.
Other duties as assigned
Inspects machines and other related equipment to ensure correct molds, meeting customer specifications.
Inspects pattern equipment and tools for defects prior to set up on the molding machine.
Does basic preventative maintenance on molding machine prior to set up.
Reports all machine and production issues to the shift supervisor.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1.Prepare molds and tool repairs for new and existing molding equipment.
2.Operate lathes, milling machines and grinders to fabricate small parts.
3.Be involved and provide input for turnkey systems pertaining to molding.
4.Read blueprints, gauges and dials.
5.Analyze problems utilizing experience and troubleshooting techniques.
6.Troubleshoot and repair 3-plate, 2-plate, and unscrewing molds as well as hot runner systems and their controllers.
7.Interact with management, manufacturing, engineering and vendors to improve tooling.
8.Monitor and ensure the safe operation of equipment.
9.Control inventory of the necessary spare parts in order to reduce downtime and increase equipment efficiency.
10. Assume a leadership role in training and developing other personnel.
11. Refurbish and maintain equipment to Good Manufacturing Practices standards.
12. Perform all documentation as required.
13. Attend and complete all required training.
14. Work a flexible schedule in order to support operations.
15. Perform all other duties and responsibilities as determined by supervision/management.
Education and Experience
1.High School Diploma is required. Technical education/training a plus.
2.5-7 years of mold maintenance or tool and die experience required.
3.Practical processing knowledge of various plastic processes.
4.Work well independently as well as with teams.
5.General knowledge of quality and safety procedures and regulations.
7.Good interpersonal and communication skills.
8.Inquisitive in nature and able to formulate plans to drive solutions.
9.Working knowledge of Lean principles a plus.
10. Meet visual acuity requirements as documented in Baxter Cleveland Visual Acuity Procedure (CL-01-01-037).

Lead projects to build, repair and modify high-quality injection mold tooling from complex part and mold designs. Diagnose issues that cause Molds to function poorly or cause quality issues.

- We are a boat building manufacturer (in Palm Coast, Florida) seeking a Mold Maintenance Technician to perform a wide variety of fiberglass lamination tasks in a large yacht manufacturing facility. Lamination tasks performed may include mold maintenance, gel coating, gun running and some bracing.
