This job description describes the authority, duties, responsibilities, reporting relationships and measure of accomplishment for the functional position of the Engineering Manager.
The Engineering Manager leads Engineering and Tool Room personnel while directing and coordinating all related activities.
The Engineering Manager receives sufficient authority from and is accountable to the General Manager for the successful completion of assigned duties and responsibilities.
The Engineering Manager reports directly to the General Manager.
This position is responsible for the management of all employees within the Engineering Department and all Tool Room personnel.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The principal duties and responsibilities of the Engineering Manager consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
- Manages the Engineering staff and Tool Room personnel to ensure projects/ objectives are accomplished in accordance with specified time frames to meet company and departmental goals
- Meet with current customers and potential customers, as required. Travel to customer/ prospect locations, as needed.

- Quote new opportunities – receive approval by the General Manager before submitting.
- Maintain the quoting/sales process so that sales performance can be accurately tracked.
- Establish methods/procedures to follow up on all quotes.
- Cradle-to-grave project management for new and transferred tooling.
- Standardize work cell layouts (using 6S methodology) to improve material flow, labor movement and usage.
- Work on capital equipment projects, including: research, obtaining quotes, and overseeing installation.
- Process troubleshooting
- Recommend and initiate automation concepts to reduce labor.
- Work with manufacturing for continuous improvements.
- Develop workmanship standards that are clearly understood and attainable.
- Attend daily production meetings.
- Assist QA department with documentation as required to maintain ISO/TS standards.
- Communicate any and all customer concerns/complaints to the Quality Assurance Manager.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide support for manufacturing, design and process engineering with continuous improvement initiatives.
Disassemble and diagnose crashed, nonfunctioning tools. Recommend whether or not it is an 'in house repair' or outsourced repair.
Process leader- IM program development, IM process system owner, SPC owner, Tool/mold monitoring software expert.
Coach and train new and current operators in new tool implementation, program development and process changes. Assist Manager with the development of operators and their success as machine operators.
Liaison with new product/new tool projects to ensure smooth product introduction with customers.
Responsible to monitor/maintain presses and tools for optimized production including:
Press monitoring system/software management
Press output monitoring (SPC)
Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs of molds. Update press management software as needed.
Provides effective "Step by Step" troubleshooting of molds, part issues coming off of press, some machine issues and new part programs.
Ability to multi-task while working in a fast paced environment.

Typically requires a high school education or equivalent. Associate Degree preferred with specific training in Injection molding concepts. RJG and/or Scientific Molding experience, also the ability use and interpret these concepts and properly use these techniques. Prior experience working with. Arburg (220 ton to 25 ton) and Sodick (30 ton) machines. Must be able to read, write and communicate in English in a professional manner with peers and internal/external customers. 5+ years experience processing a wide variety of engineering grade thermoplastic material, as well as, blends and alloys is preferred. Knowledge of machine process variables and how each affects part characteristics is required. Knowledge of part and tool design (i.e., draft angles & radii; wall thickness; gate function, location, and design; etc.) desirable but not required. Must have basic math skills and computer knowledge from an MRP and machine operating perspective. Ability to read blueprints and interpret GD&T. Must be familiar with basic measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and functional gauges.
Physical Demands/Work Environment
Ability to work in light duty assembly production type environment. Moderately heavy work requiring the occasional lifting of objects weighing 50 pounds. In the performance of essential duties the incumbent will be required to operate a personal computer, copy machine, facsimile, calculator, telephone etc.
