The HITS Enterprise Infrastructure division secures, manages, and architects Michigan Medicine data centers, networks, and communication infrastructures. The team is responsible for all Michigan Medicine IT-related technical infrastructure, including data centers and communication facilities; wired, wireless, and in-house cellular networks; spectrum management; communication; complex device management; fiber/wiring plant; hosting; directories, databases, and storage; and continuity of operations institution-wide. Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) organization has an exciting opportunity to employ a Storage Engineer to support and maintain highly available data storage and data protection systems. This position is responsible for providing support for provisioning, using, patching, updating, and upgrading enterprise storage and data protection systems.
This position will report to the HITS Enterprise Infrastructure Storage Team which is responsible for implementing and managing the Michigan Medicine Enterprise Storage environment and providing infrastructure services to support many of the enterprise wide applications used by Michigan Medicine (MM).
The team manages a large Cisco SAN fabric stretched between two primary data centers; a large SVC virtualization farm with 5+ Petabytes of SAN storage; a 5+ petabyte NAS storage farm servicing Server Share FileSystem, User Share FileSystem and research storage. TSM is the primary backup/recovery tool for backing up/recovering file systems and databases. The TSM complex consist of 4 TSM instances backing up over 2000 hosts and databases on a daily basis to redundant IBM 3584 tape libraries with 48 – 3592 cartridge drives fronted by large disk pools located at each data center.
The position requires someone who works well without supervision and who proactively anticipates and resolves problems. This role is expected to coach and mentor team members, to seek out and implement improved processes and technologies, to establish and document procedures and standards in a consistent manner, and to set an example for others by exceeding customer expectations.

Provide technical consulting to assisting customers in defining their storage needs and assisting in the implementation of our storage solutions to meet those needs.
Install, implement and maintain Enterprise Storage solutions, including the SAN and NAS solutions, Storage virtualization, multi-vendor Disk Storage Subsystems, Backup solutions including backup/recovery tools, tape libraries, and data archiving. A focus for this position would be on IBM based SAN disk technologies including IBM SVC, IBM V7000, and IBM Flash900.
Develop and document standards/procedures/strategies/scripts that maximize the functionality and reliability of the storage solution(s). Provide Storage technical assistance to HITS teams for storage needs, backup/recovery strategies, to address applications performance issues and general platform problem analysis
Maintain and enhance backup procedures, which include several large Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) servers, with hundreds of clients using both native TSM as well as Oracle TDP and VMware (VE) hypervisor-based backups.
Perform storage capacity monitoring and reporting to ensure that adequate data is available to assess the impact of growth trends and application changes.
Assess current hardware and software technology and its applicability to our environment. Make recommendations for acquisitions, engineering and configuration changes.
Position would be required to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, included triage of Incident/Problem/Vulnerability tickets.
Bachelor's degree in computer science, business computing or a related field and/or equivalent combination of education, certification or experience.
Minimum of 6 years of experience in a related role requiring customer service, confidentiality, timeliness, organization, prioritization, troubleshooting, and working independently to successfully design services and workflows in an enterprise architecture.

ABOUT THE WORK UNIT:
The Operations Branch exists to provide fiscal, contract and administrative planning, directing, coordinating and oversight to Division leadership, the Division's programmatic staff and other stakeholders both internal and external to the Division and CDPHE. The Branch serves as the subject matter experts on all fiscal, procurement and compliance for the Division. In that capacity, Branch staff provide fiscal, budget and accounting analysis, reporting and support for all Division funding sources as well as administer, monitor and ensure compliance for all contracts and procurement within the Division. Staff also serve as the liaisons between the Division's programmatic branches and the agency's centralized accounting, procurement and budget offices. DUTIES OF THE POSITION:
Monitors contracted agencies to ensure that contractual obligations are fulfilled and that problems, complaints and suggestions are addressed. This includes assessing agency compliance with CDPHE standards and other contractual programmatic provisions, and addressing contractor performance issues.
Analyzes data and reports to detect potential areas of noncompliance.

Identifies any program areas that are assessed as below standard as a result of site visits or other monitoring activities. Explains these areas to contractors in a timely manner, and works with the contractor to bring about improvements. Documents all requests and outcomes.
For areas that continue to show evidence of noncompliance after having been discussed with contractors, develop a written Performance Improvement Plan, consistent with department and Program guidelines;
In collaboration with DCEED Contracts and Procurement Unit staff, participates in the contract and purchase order development process, ending with a fully executed commitment document.
Supplies information to Division and department staff necessary to determine the appropriate type of solicitation. Participates in the solicitation process as requested by the supervisor
Utilizes a performance-based approach to developing and negotiating scopes of work, whereby the contractor is paid based on the achievement of defined contractual goals, which includes detailed descriptions of performance expectations, objective means of measuring compliance with standards, and performance indicators.
