The emergence of flash and software defined storage technologies is driving changes in storage system architectures within data centers. The Micron Storage Solutions Center in Austin, Texas, is looking for a storage system / performance engineer intern to help characterize flash-based media for enterprise applications and storage systems. Roles and Responsibilities
Design, develop, and deploy enterprise software applications and storage solutions that simulate customer environments – Specific focus around RDBMS databases and SDS platforms
Participate in application workload simulation, performance characterization, analysis and optimization
Devise and implement suitable benchmarking strategies, drawing from industry standards, and field feedback
Demonstrate skills at instrumenting and measuring application workload requests, analyze storage solution I/O activity right down to SSD devices and monitor system resource utilization
Analyze system level bottlenecks and troubleshoot issues involving virtualization technologies, distributed storage architectures, and complex application workload environments
Interpret findings and results, iteratively when necessary, and summarize into best practices documents, white papers and presentations to help the sales organizations better meet customer requirements
Work with cross-functional teams and key partners to deliver prescriptive guidance documents to position our storage products in top-tier application environments
Drive continuous improvement feedback to Micron product development organizations
Improve efficiency by automating solution deployment, benchmark tests and related procedures
Meet project schedules with a high degree of fidelity
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience with hypervisors and SDS stacks: VMWare ESX including VSAN, Microsoft Hyper-V including Storage Spaces, QEMU/KVM with CEPH, Docker, Linux Containers
At least two operating systems and associated internal storage stacks: Microsoft, VMware, Linux, and UNIX
Familiarity with leading scripting, programming languages and technologies, Python preferred
Familiarity with system level automation tools and processes
Familiarity with and knowledge of Solid State Drives and related technologies
Excellent oral and written communication skills
A Bachelor's or Master's in engineering
