The primary function of the Crane Operator is to efficiently and safely load cargo on and off the merchant ocean going vessels, including cellular guided container ships, break bulk type vessel and shore gantry cranes. The Crane Operator Coordinates these moves under the direction of the Lo/Lo/RoRo Header and with the assistance of Longshore Gang members.
Secondary duties require highly skilled work in the operation and general maintenance of a wide variety of heavy equipment used in the maritime industry. Must be qualified to operate all types of cranes, stackers, yard hustlers, forklifts, most farm equipment, heavy industrial construction equipment, and tractor trailers. Work involves the safe and efficient operation of primarily the heaviest and largest types of equipment used in a full range of maritime operations.
Must have mastered a broad spectrum of activities and responsibilities in multiple major areas of vessel operations and terminal operations. Safe and efficient operation of gantry crane, container handlers, forklifts, yard hustlers, and other support equipment. Perform correction, preventative corrosion control, and minor repairs to all support equipment. Complete daily, monthly and annual safety inspections of equipment. Must record results in machinery history log and assist in corrective measures. Qualify in all vessel operations support equipment, terminal support, and warehouse support equipment.
Participate in the training and administration of training key support personnel to include flagmen, oilers, yard gangs, and new operators. Maintain standard proficiency rating as established by management; participate in the proficiency evaluation of other operators. Demonstrate a complete knowledge of general practices applied in the care and safe operation of a wide variety of light to heavy equipment used in the maritime industry.

Responsible for committing to memory the standard hand signals for crane operations and ensure compliance.
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to stand, walk, use hands, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The work environment involves hazards, risks or discomforts typical of working with or around machinery with exposed moving parts, arrant chemicals, heavy equipment, extreme heights or abusive or hostile clientele. Exposure to disagreeable weather conditions and extreme levels of temperature, ventilation, lighting and sound are normal. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
This is a safety sensitive position. The candidate selected for this position must successfully complete a full physical including a drug test and a background screening. Passing results must be received prior to start date in new position.

Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, handle objects, reach with hands and arms, write, talk, type and hear. Associate is occasionally required to sit, stoop, bend and/or kneel and lift and/or move up to 80 lbs.
