The Backend Operator works closely with the Manufacturing Supervisor to ensure beverage can inside coating and necking formation process meets or exceeds quality and customer expectations.
Duties And Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Production Supervisor, the Back-end Operators responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:
Responsibility of maintaining activities of beverage can LSM Coaters and Neckers with a focus on optimizing Safety, Quality, Productivity and Spoilage.
Ability to operate, safe operation, and the maintaining of process equipment.
Communicates all pertinent information between the supervisor, quality control, departments, and between shifts on changes to equipment, production problems or any other related information.
Assists and trains and/or coaching of all new operators as needed or required.
Applies skills, methods to improve plant production.
Visually inspects/tests product to ensure compliance to quality standards
Responsible in following safety JHA's, rules, maintaining quality and modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimal efficiencies.
Complete and/or administer necessary documentation such as production sheets, monthly SAFE cards, accident/near miss/hazard reporting, and data process control input.
Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.
In addition to the specific responsibilities listed above, the ideal candidate will possess the following:
High School Education/GED
2-3 year(s) in cleaning and setup/operating/adjusting process equipment in a manufacturing environment.
Able to operate, read, understand, measuring gauges, and computers.
Must be available to work various shifts if needed and be able to work nights, weekends, and overtime to cover absences or provide additional support.
10 Hour OSHA Certification
Operation of beverage can coaters and neckers
Areal lift experience
Problem solving skills through an individual and/or collaborative approach.
Ability to work independently or with a team.
With consensus be able to look at new solutions and "think outside the box".
Effective leadership skills such as conflict resolution, communication, decision making, etc.
Demonstrated good relations skills and the ability to motivate or team with people.
Excellent time management skills and multi-tasking.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Computer skills and working knowledge of various Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, Access, etc.).
While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The associate may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Generally works in a manufacturing environment.
While performing the duties of this job, the associate will be exposed to moving mechanical parts/product inks, coatings, cleaning chemicals.
The associate may be exposed to climbing, oven heat, and tight spaces.
Production noise level is frequently loud.

Crown Cork & Seal's North American Beverage Packaging Division has openings for Production Mechanics at their new manufacturing facility located in Nichols, New York. This facility will manufacture aluminum cans for the beverage industry.
This position will trouble-shoot, repair, adjust and maintain all related equipment involved with running production at this high-speed state-of-the-art metal packaging manufacturing facility. This would include operation of equipment as well as identifying areas of spoilage and taking appropriate corrective action to resolve the issues. Equipment would include body makers, printers, washers, spray equipment, neckers and flangers as well as other production machinery. This position will also develop standard operating procedures; provide training for equipment operation and reinforce all safety procedures.
A high school diploma or equivalent with 5+ years working experience in a manufacturing setting (high-speed manufacturing is preferred).
An Associates/technical degree is preferred or a related vocational/technical certification (journeyman card, technical license, etc.).
Strong proven working experience in preventative maintenance, troubleshooting skills and equipment re-build expertise are required for these roles.
Experience in using controls and settings on high-speed automated equipment.
High competency in the use of micrometers, calipers and related equipment.
Strong math and computer skills.
This position also requires the individual to be able to read and interpret mechanical blueprints, electrical schematics and parts specifications.
Effective and proven communication skills working in a team environment.
Must be able to work twelve (12) hour shifts, both day and evening.
Must have the ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds on occasion
