JOB GRADE: H05
Needle Assembly Operators will be responsible for production on their designated lines as well as various other departmental tasks. They may be trained on any or all of the processes in the department to help fill production needs. This includes Safety Glide, Needle Inline Process, Multi-Vacs, Integra, Molding, and the Utility role. They may perform visual inspections as well as assembly or packaging operations. Will be responsible for achieving production rate and quality goals on assigned equipment. May require the use of 10x microscopes, calipers, and/or other miscellaneous gauges. May be required to perform SAP data entries. This associate will cover for absences and vacations to help maintain normal production outputs. Will perform rework for the department as needed. Other tasks will include: ensuring the production schedule is followed, processing SAP and MES transactions for the department, driving completion of rework, assisting with the BDA process, participating on blitz teams for the department, as well as any other duties assigned by the Unit Coordinator.

The Micro Need Utility Operator under general supervision and in accordance with applicable specifications, polishes, inspects, and heat¬ treats micro and channel needles in various alloys. Keeps equipment and work area clean and orderly. Does all other work, related in nature to assure efficient machine operation and maintenance of production schedule.
You will:
Be responsible for compliance to FDA/GMP/ISO/OSHA as it pertains to daily activities within Ethicon.
Follow all job specific safety procedures and utilize PPE when necessary.
Comply with quality system requirements as defined within procedures. and instructions and enter production information in quality records.
Use test equipment (Starrett Gauge, Mitutoyo Gauge, Microscope etc.) where applicable.
Utilize applicable software systems as needed for the job (e.g. JDE, ComplianceWire, ADAPTIV,etc.)
Be familiar with proper documentation practices and SOPs.
Consistently meet required work performance targets (RE's), if applicable.
Support LEAN and Six Sigma Initiatives.
This position pays $25.66/hour and is under a Collective Bargaining Agreement in a union environment.
A minimum of a High school diploma or G.E.D. is required.
Experience in an FDA regulated environment, required.
Knowledge of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) and GDP (Good Documentation Practices) is required.
Basic computer skills and problem-solving ability is required.
Basic math skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide, percentages, shop arithmetic, decimals, fractions, etc., required.
Experience utilizing JDE is required.
Ability to read and interpret needle specifications, process specifications and simple shop drawings is required.
Dexterity to hang needles on racks, inspect needles under a microscope, and the ability perform repetitive hand motion and fine manipulation is required.

This position requires a daily commute to Somerville, NJ, Monday - Friday for the 1st shift working hours of 6:00AM - 2:30PM with occasional overtime and off-shift hours, including weekends, is required.
Loom Technician
General Description
Loom Technician is responsible for necessary repairs and maintenance on needle looms
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Troubleshoot and adjust settings or repair/replace parts on loom if flagged, and document corrective actions.
Schedule any major breakdowns into normal work week (such as rebuilding heads, cam shafts, crankshafts, shuttle motions, etc.)
Perform preventive maintenance (change oil and Kaiser heads, cleaning) as required.
Lubricate loom based on lubrication schedule.
Perform scheduled inspection and maintenance on looms.
Notify supervisor of any problems or parts/materials needed.
Prepare looms and assist on style changes by building patterns and checking beam tensions, harnesses, and heads.
Adjust beam tension to control width, breaks and loom performance.
Regular, predictable, reliable attendance is required.
Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work environment.
Use proper safety equipment and follow safety procedures (i.e., lockout/tagout).
Understand and follow quality policy and work instructions.

Responsibilities
Constantly patrols all parts of all machinery and checks for quality defects on section and makes overhauls, repairs, or adjustments as needed.
Perform all "check lists" type duties on style changes, new warps and maintenance looms. Supervisor may assign assistance as deemed necessary.
Performs preventive maintenance procedures on looms. Records all action on the proper forms, takes corrective action or makes recommendations for repair.

Job Summary:
Responsible for achieving established productivity, safety, and quality goals on assigned set of looms. Weavers may be asked to run different sets of looms on occasion. Operates light-duty bench- or floor-type machine tools and automation equipment. May set up machining machines and make adjustments, and perform maintenance on machines. Checks work using prescribed gauges, jigs and fixtures to measure close tolerances. Some machines may be numerically controlled. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.
Accountabilities:
Must observe all safety precautions and regulations at all times in all areas where duties are performed. Will be responsible for reporting all safety hazards and potential unsafe working conditions. Must attend all monthly scheduled Safety Meetings.
Cycle the looms at the beginning of the shift.
Keep looms running.
Flag looms when needed for weaving technician, warp out operator, tie in operator, cloth doffer and/or supervisor.
Cycles back or warp alley to detect loose ends, mat ups, bad warps, hard size, etc., especially when all looms are running.
Cycle front or cloth alley to detect any defect such as miss draws, ends outs, doubles, leno selvage not weaving or any other malfunction in the performance of the loom. Replace bad or broken heddles or dropwires.
Keep warp ends straight, cut laps off warps and place in proper receptacle.
Draw in all broken warp ends up to 7 ends or more.
Smashes of 7 or more ends should be posted to smash board.
Change filling yarn as needed and tie transfer tail.
Start loom for filling stop, warp stop, leno stop, and catch cord stop. Place waste yarn in apron.
Put bad filling in proper location to be returned to the spinning department.
Meet department production goals.
Meet department quality goals by ensuring only quality cloth coming from looms.
Follow all safety rules, plant rules, department rules and implement total quality in his/her area of responsibility.
Participate in Plant Corrective Action Team Program.
Participate in Plant Safety Program.
Report all unsafe conditions in a timely manner.

Carry rag waste to Waste House once per shift. Responsible for all samples run and for knowing what style changes have been made.
Check all shipping rolls for noticeable defects.
Do not bale if not within acceptable standards. Audit number of loom rolls on the floor and instruct intra operators to change styles when necessary.
Communicate with Weave Room regarding defective cloth. When the loom is still making defective cloth, inform the weaver, loom technician or supervisor immediately so the loom can be corrected. Inventory all rerun/reject rolls in inventory and turn in at end of shift.
Run rerun/reject rolls you have been assigned.
Turn in at the end of shift daily production sheet for the Intras Show leadership and be responsible when supervisor is not in the area.
See that associates follow all safety rules, plant rules, department rules and implement total quality at all times. Participate in Plant Corrective Action Team Program.

Member ERT(Emergency Response Team). Operate intra when necessary and as instructed by supervisor.

Sets tricots behind beamer via powered industrial truck.
Unload/load tricots via overhead crane.
Pulls tricot ends to tie-in rack.
Rack and tie tricot ends using knotter.
Run knots onto loom beam.
Doff full loom beam and replace with empty loom beam.
Operates beamer and observes yarn to detect breaks and tangles.
Repair broken ends, when needed.
Creates beam ticket for each beam doffed.
Insures proper alignment and speed of beamer.
Cuts waste from beam, if necessary.
Operates powered industrial equipment.
Replace empty propane tank on powered industrial truck when necessary.
Changes warp truck battery, when needed.
Operates warp truck.
Adheres to quality standards.
Wears required personal protective equipment for task at hand.
Beamer must be stopped before operator gets into creel behind tricot to get end up.
Only in speed of slow or creep may operator be in creel behind tricot.
Gloves must be worn when handling beams or tricots.
No sitting on motor covers in creel.
When an operator is in creel the other operator needs to be at controls in creel section unless multiple ends are out on various tricots. When this occurs the supervisor or lead person will have someone to assist at the controls.
No operator needs to be under the eye board when machine is running at full speed. Can only be under the eye board when running in creep or slow mode.
No reaching over the chains in the beaming area.
Use UHMW stick to smooth and straighten out ends coming off the tricots or running onto the loom beam while the Beamer is running.
Maintains clean and orderly work area.
Works safely and orderly.
Perform all necessary miscellaneous work pertaining to the above job duties.
Notifies supervision of any hazardous or unsafe work conditions.
