Nematologist Job Description Sample
The Dow AgroSciences’ Seed Treatment Discovery Group is seeking an experienced Nematologist to work in our Indianapolis research facility. The successful candidate will have the responsibilities of implementing the screening of compounds (chemicals and /or biologicals) for potential use as Nematicide seed treatments. The work will require the appropriate application of experimental designs; record and collection of biological observations; and analysis of results using various data software applications. Emphasis is on organizing a balanced approach of continuous screening while improving existing methods and developing new ones. Working in a team environment, the successful candidate will have job responsibilities, which include but are not limited to:
Develop/Improve existing Plant Bioassays for the quantification of Nematode control (efficacy) and Seed/Plant safety
Maintain experiments in laboratories, growth chambers and greenhouses
Generate and present summary of technical results.
Propagate/maintain cultures of different Nematode species
Prepare chemical dilutions and experimental formulations; and apply such preparations to seeds
Implement and develop Safety practices to insure safety in the work environment; * Supervise/mentor contractor staff to ensure, the work is performed safely and efficiently.
Function as a liaison between the Biology and Chemistry teams to facilitate understanding around dynamic research needs and opportunities for improvements Required Qualification:
Masters or Ph.D. in Biological Sciences with emphasis in Nematology * A minimum of 3 years industry experience
Familiarity with, and interest in conducting laboratory, greenhouse, controlled environment chamber, and/or field trials with chemicals and biologicals
Familiarity with Nematicides seed treatments and agricultural chemistry
Background knowledge of Nematology/Plant Pathology and Soil Sciences
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Willing to work in a group of diverse people while supporting team members to meet team objectives
Experience in observation and paying close attention to detail
Familiarity with safety procedures
Strong record of accomplishment of reliably delivering on-time results
Ability to work independently. * A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States.
