Write compelling, succinct, clear news scripts under tight deadlines.
Write stories according to station policies, editorial style and rundown.
Research and evaluate news stories and sources.
Video editing of news stories.
Assist in the producing of news segments and breaking news special reports.
Exercise sound news judgment and comply with KPIX News editorial standards.
Mandatory Professional Requirements
Applicants should have the following experience and skills:
At least 2 years of television news writing.
Experience on Inews/ENPS or equivalent news computer system.
Ability to create clear, compelling, succinct news stories from raw materials including: unedited video, reporter notes, desk notes, telephone interviews, wire copy.
Writing style that is straightforward uses active voice and is conversational.
Experience working with video editors, providing edit instructions.
Experience using FCP or other desktop editing systems.
Familiarity with news feed services CBS Newspath and CNN.
At least 2 years of line producing in a medium/major market.
Must possess excellent production and management skills.
Ability to write compelling news teases.
Ability to respond rapidly and effectively to breaking news.
Must have control room experience with live breaking news coverage.
Related College degree and/or equivalent preferred.
Must be able to sit at desk and operate a keyboard for long periods of time.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Write news copy for anchors under direction of newscast producer. Also be able to produce news shows, as needed.
Work under extreme deadline pressure to create and write factual updated and compelling news copy that is compliant with news strategies.
Screen and edit from both linear and non-linear services to select relevant and engaging pictures and sound.
Work closely with reporters and video editors to produce story coverage, with an eye toward keeping the story both clear and succinct and compliant with news strategies.
Work closely with photographers in the field on breaking news and special assignments.
Support overall quality of the newscast with a keen eye for detail, including spelling, fact checking, balance and fairness.
Conceive, create or order graphics to support news copy.
Vacation-relief show producing duties and other duties as assigned.
Must be willing to work overnights and weekend mornings, and other hours as needed.
Knowledge of use of social media a must and ability to execute station's social media strategy and efforts

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Three years' experience as a news writer or producer, preferably in a top 20 market.
Bachelor's degree in journalism or similar field.
Familiarity with Chicago area, desirable.
Experience with non-linear editing, a plus.

What part will you play and what will you be doing?
Pitching, researching, planning guest segments and/or packages as needed. Identifying guests, video elements, graphic elements (including relevant fonts). Coordinating execution of segments live from control room when needed, to ensure the most effective pursuit of the vision of the segment. Handling logistics for production of packages-interviews (both arranging and conducting when necessary),shoots (including finding sites, securing crew and booking travel), video (choosing and/or cutting video and monitoring the editing of the piece as necessary). Developing graphics for pieces or entire programs based on theme. Writing: pulling together all elements of segments and writing anchor intros, teases, fonts and text for graphics. Coordinating all elements gathered for packages into coherent, compelling pieces that integrate the best video and the strongest words. Collaborating with newsgathering and Media Operations to obtain the best elements. Collaborating with the Row to ensure the best script. Writing day-of scripts for program: promos, teases, opens, news, features. Effectively using video, graphics and fonts on all assigned stories.
What do we need from you?
Four years broadcast newswriting and/or producing experience preferred; five years a plus
Four-year college degree or equivalent in proven industry experience
Excellent writing skills-style, language, accuracy, organization, balance
Ability to produce quality work quickly
Flexibility-ability to adapt during breaking news, ability to adapt to program or anchor style
Attitude- must be eager, cooperative, energetic, team-oriented

The focus of this role of the Communications Advisor is to assist in the development and production of communications plans and materials that ultimately enhancing the corporate reputation and image of Southwestern Energy. This individual reports to the Director, Corporate Communications.
Internal clients served by the professional in this role include executives in the C-suite; key functional leaders (e.g., HR, Regulatory Affairs, HSE, and Legal) and those in leadership roles in the production and operations areas in the business.
Media Relations (20%): Manage routine news media queries and provide recommendations to the Director, Corporate Communications on what level of cooperation would be serve SWN's interests. This includes dealing with news media queries from local, oil & gas industry, business media and technical/scientific media outlets, both traditional and digital media outlets, using approved media statements and responses to expected questions.
Social Media (10%): Assist the Director in the production of an annual content calendar; manage the production and approvals for content; monitor social media sites for comments for possible action; identify and anticipate new or emerging items which may warrant content generation; manage the monitoring and reporting of site(s) traffic.
News media monitoring (10%): Manage the daily news media monitoring of content of interest to SWN regarding the natural gas industry, NGL industry, industry news in our areas of operation, legal, regulatory and legislative news; and news on key competitors. Produce a daily summary, weekly summary and monthly summary, combined with social media summaries. Update LexisNexis Industry News Feed on company intranet.
Internal/employee communications (40%): Serve as the primary writer for internal communications content for the intranet and other internal communications vehicles. This includes generating an annual content calendar, researching and writing news stories, working with the visual communications team to produce artwork to illustrate the stories, taking photography, posting notices on the intranet, publishing content related to organizational announcements and other key news, assisting with content generation for town halls and other internal events. In addition, assist HR with script development/talking points for employee events including Service Awards, President's Awards and Christmas Parties. Corporate reputation building (20%): Assist in the development and updating of organizational identity materials (e.g., overview PPT, overview video, content on social media sites, fact sheets, white papers, bylined articles for executives, news releases, content for the company's website, brochures, letters to lease holders and land owners).
Newswriting skills and solid understanding of AP style.
Ability to think strategically about how to solve business problems using communications tools.
Multi-task comfort level as projects and tasks often change with little notice as situations warrant and dictate.
Technical expertise in the Microsoft Suite (Office, Excel, PPT)
Display consistent judgment, tact and diplomacy

Some experience in dealing with crisis situations is ideal, as well as familiarity with the Incident Command System
Very strong organizational skills and attention to detail; grammar knowledge; and ability to manage multiple projects (with minimal supervision at times) with multiple stakeholders.

KXII-TV News 12 is seeking a dual threat storyteller for our Sherman newsroom to help bring the stories that matter to Texomans into their homes every weekday morning. This is a full-time position working directly under our morning anchors. Your primary duty will be to report on breaking and spot news for our weekday morning newscast. You'll also help produce our morning newscast and serve as backup to the primary morning producer. You'll learn the ropes from an experienced, award-winning news team, and tell stories that air in the market's top-rated newscasts, as well as contribute your material onto our digital platforms.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
Assist in producing our 2-hour morning newscast
Newswriting (both digital and broadcast)
Finding and telling compelling stories (local, regional, state or national)
Writing and posting multimedia-rich digital news stories
Posting and updating breaking news on our digital platforms
Occasionally operating the teleprompter
Assisting in answering the station's news tip hotline calls and monitoring police & fire scanner traffic
The right candidate will be comfortable and skilled in front of the camera, whether it be doing live shots in the field or studio, a strong news writer and video editor, a competent problem-solver, a quick thinker, and a good communicator. Must work well under pressure and on deadline. Knowledge of broadcast news formatics, broadcast and digital news writing, as well as social media best practices required.
