Perform fuel assembly characterization and selection calculations for dry cask storage.
Evaluates RCS activity for failed fuel and reviews industry OE’s on fuel performance and fuel handling to evaluate applicability and to apply lessons learned to Nuclear Fleet’s units.
Coordinates and oversees activities for vendor on-site fuel inspection and repair and determines cause and corrective actions for fuel failures.

Kairos Power LLC is seeking a highly motivated candidate to lead fuel performance modeling, analysis, and design of tristructural isotropic (TRISO) fuel for application to a fluoride-salt cooled reactor system. The candidate should have a strong background in the multi-physics effects of fuel irradiation and fuel performance. The ideal candidate would have experience with the integration of a fuel performance model in a multi-physics environment to understand effects of irradiation behavior on fuel performance and related design codes. Strong commitment to teamwork is required.
· Develop performance model for design and qualification of TRISO fuel with integration in multi-physics models for reactor core design
· Contribute to fuels-related analysis and mechanistic-based modeling for FHR conceptual design
· Analyze existing and new fuels irradiation data to understand performance and guide fuel design and qualification effort
· Specify requirements and contribute to design of fuel handling systems for fresh fuel inspection and for on-line inspection of irradiated fuel elements during on-line refueling

Preferred: Experience with fluid dynamics and pipe flow calculations, HVAC design, and hydraulics and heat exchanger calculations.
Security screening and drug testing is required for access.
Physical capability to work in the plant i.e. climb stairs, work in hot environment, work in radiation/contamination areas.

This position is for the Kesselring Support Group within Department E81. This group supports the Kesselring Site Operations (KSO) S8G prototype refueling overhaul (ROH) and other various prototype maintenance availabilities with engineering deliverables such as job scoping documentation, procedures, and identification of material and drawing requirements.
The primary role of this position will be to develop and review engineering deliverables to support the planning and execution of the S8G Prototype located in Ballston Spa, NY. Some travel to the KSO site will be required to support ship checks and deck plate support. Having, or able to obtain, Article 112 (RTNE) qualification is required. An incumbent must have a good knowledge of engineering/design processes relating to ship’s systems and knowledge of the nuclear/propulsion plant components and systems as well as good technical writing and communication skills.
