JOB SUMMARY: GHS is seeking Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM) for full and part-time positions to provide antepartum, postpartum and gynecological care. A major role will be performing clinical responsibilities, patient teaching and counseling, and management in the areas of pre-conceptual care, pregnancy and well woman gynecology. CNMs will perform care services under the responsibility and supervision of the physician.

Exempt Work Schedule/Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm Location: East Baltimore The GYN Specialties and Generalists Division of The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology is seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary health team, responsible for providing comprehensive gynecologic care to both well and/or ill patients and to educate patients.
This provider will practice within the guidelines of the department, and the Institution in accordance with the State of Maryland Board of Nursing. The Nurse Midwife will be granted affiliate staff privileges by the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center; these privileges are reviewed annually. S(he) is responsible to the preceptor and department head for nursing and clinical standards and practice. S(he) will report to the Director of the Division of Gynecologic Specialties.
Duties & Responsibilites: Provides care to women across the age spectrum as it relates to general health maintenance, contraception, menopause, and other female related issues, in a timely, professional, and friendly manner. Provides primary care to established patients seeking GYN care, which may include diagnosis and management of UTI’s, vaginitis, STDs, as well as various other female-related issues.
Provides independent management of GYN complaints, including counseling, testing, diagnosis, treatment, and/or follow-up, referring patients appropriately to other physician providers as needed, in the case of issues too complex or complicated to be managed by the nurse practitioner, physician assistant, or certified nurse midwife. Performs health screening, orders, performs and interprets tests. Establishes medical and nursing diagnoses; orders, performs and evaluates diagnostic studies; performs and monitors therapeutic procedures; assesses and/or manages follow-up plans.
Performs physical examinations, microscopy and screening for sexually transmitted infections, bacterial vaginosis and cervical cancer. Documents patient chart information as needed, including but not limited to problem identification, treatment and follow-up, and other program forms as needed. Records and documents health assessment data necessary to maintain, coordinate, and/or expedite required services.
Provides consultation and collaboration with and referral to physician colleagues as indicated, for high-risk conditions that include but are not limited to HIV infection, hypertension, diabetes, pyelonephritis, and other abnormalities. Prescribes and regulates medications per written agreement. Reviews daily laboratory, radiology and other reports and provides for appropriate treatment and follow-up as indicated.
Reports abnormal patient findings to appropriate physician colleagues and is responsible for coordinating the reporting of all STDs to state agencies, as indicated and appropriate. Supports clinical activities of the Green Spring/JHOC- GYN practice, by providing patient and family education, developing teaching materials and other support activities as time permits. Assumes responsibility and accountability for time management, professional relationships and interpersonal interactions.
Develops, conducts, and/or evaluates formal or informal in-service and continuing education programs in areas of expertise for peer groups and other disciplines. Assumes responsibility for his/her own professional development and remains current in clinical practice by attending relevant continuing education. Participates on department, functional unit, and Hospital committees, as assigned.
Serves as clinical preceptor for nursing students, including nurse practitioner or nurse midwife candidates as time permits. Participate in discharge care including discharge orders. Assist Obstetrician as First Assist for C-sections Maintains records of cases for inclusion in establishment file. Conducts classes for groups of patients and families to provide information concerning pregnancy, childbirth, and family orientation.
May direct activities of other workers. May instruct in midwifery in establishment providing such training. Participate in the performance improvement activities of the department.
