JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
We are currently in need of a skilled Design Checker within our Generator Engineering group to join our team of professionals in our Aerospace manufacturing facility. This individual will be responsible for reviewing all drawings to ensure proper functionality.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Major Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Ensure that all drawings are complete (accurate, fully dimensioned and in alignment with build-up studies).
Validate that all drawings support program requirements as well as support appropriate customer, industry and manufacturing standards.
Ensure parts assemble properly and can be economically manufactured.
Mentoring drafters on:
Drawing accuracy and organization
Proper usage of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
Proper usage of standard features
Manufacturing methodology
Standard library information.
Ensuring accuracy of the drawing progress report.
Creating tolerance build ups when analyzing a design to support hardware functionality and drawing creation.
Perform eccentricity studies on multi-component assemblies and interface studies involving rotating hardware with seals, bearings, electro-mechanical components, gears, and splines.
Collaborate directly with the engineer and designer throughout the layout process.
Conform to customer norms for validating the order and methodologies used in modeling so that the documented design can be reviewed, analyzed and released in a manner consistent with established practices.
Provide technical support for preparation and presentation data for design and passport reviews
Support stress and thermal analyses as required and as directed by engineering.
Perform tasks within the engineering change process
Qualifications:
US Persons status required for security clearances
Good interpersonal communication skills and willingness to operate within a diverse and global workforce are mandatory.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Be able to comprehend and implement oral and written inputs
Strict adherence to the design process is mandatory
Attention to detail is critical to ensure a safe and reliable product
Education:
Associates Degree, or higher, in Mechanical Design, Electrical Design, Computer Aided Design or equivalent technology discipline from an accredited institution.
Skills:
10+ years of experience in a design and drafting environment developing mechanical products is required.
Candidate must have a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical principles
Demonstrate proficiency in reading and interpreting models, assembly and piece part drawings.
Understanding of GD&T, ANSI Y14.5M dimensioning practices
Ability to create a tolerance analysis for assemblies and piece parts is required.
Demonstrated proficiency with Siemens NX is preferred
Working knowledge of drafting and PDM tools along with general computer literacy is required
Manufacturing experience is a plus.

Position Summary:
Required Skills and Experience:
Minimum of 18 Years of age.
High school diploma or GED required.
6 months of related experience (i.e. working in a distribution warehouse environment, roofer, farmhand, grocery dock, construction, manipulating patients in a hospital/nursing home or physical therapy environment, or other positions which require continuous heavy lifting which deals with multi-temperature).
Willing and able to work any day or shift as we are a 24/7 operation.
Demonstrated attention to detail
Must be able to repetitively lift up to 50lbs
Strong math skills.
Position must pass a post offer drug test and background check
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Forklift certification is preferred.
Associate's degree preferred.
Prior inventory/ auditing experience preferred.
Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
Responsible for verifying both inbound and outbound inventory matches.
Ensure load accuracy at check in and check out by physically counting.
Maintain required records.

Visually inspect all incoming and outgoing vehicles (including climbing onto truck and manually opening bay doors).

Engineering Design Checker
Primary job responsibility will be to perform document checking functions for mechanical and electronic packaging of avionics and RF engineering drawings and specifications. The selected individual will be required to examine engineering drawings/models and related documents for soundness, efficiency, and simplicity in design; completeness, clarity, and dimensional accuracy; correctness of materials and processes; conformity to design/drafting standards, design specifications, and practicability; and economy of fabrication, assembly, and installation.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree and or experience.
Solid understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals including structures, mechanisms, materials and analysis
Design and/or manufacturing experience that includes the use and interpretation of engineering design drawings
Familiar with mechanical hardware manufacturing processes
Computer Aided Design (CAD) modeling and drafting familiarity (Creo, I-Deas, Solid Works, etc.)

The City of Sunnyvale has two openings, Plan Checker I and Plan Checker II, to review construction plans for code compliance. These positions work closely with the public to issue permits/plans that protect life and property. The ideal candidate will possess technical expertise in the building codes, have strong organizational and administrative skills, and be solutions driven with strong customer service skills. Essential Job Functions
(May include, but are not limited to, the following):
Conducts review and express review of drawings for architectural, electrical and plumbing drawings; reviews specifications for commercial, industrial and residential buildings for compliance with State and local codes; issues construction permits.
Provides preliminary review of significant projects prior to full submittal; provides comments to applicant and assistance with understanding plan review process.
Conducts pre-submittal meetings with architects, engineers, and clients.
Performs periodic field inspections as necessary or assigned.
Coordinates plan review process with staff from other divisions/departments; serves as main point of contact for customer.
Enforces codes by issuing instructions, recommendations, citations, and stop work orders.
Answers office inquiries, keep records and make reports of inspections.
Monitors and tracks progress of projects related to activities within the One Stop Permit Center.
Advises building inspectors on miscellaneous problems arising in the field during construction of a building project.
Creates professional business correspondence, procedures, forms, memoranda, reports and other documentation associated with the work; prepares reports as required.
Maintains professional knowledge consistent with the job requirements.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard. The position also requires near and far vision when performing tasks such as field inspections, in reading written reports and work related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal customer service. The need to lift, drag, carry and push equipment, tools and supplies up to 25 pounds is also required. Additionally, when performing field inspections, the incumbent may be exposed to biohazards and work in a variety of working conditions, including mechanical and electrical hazards, loud noise, and inclement weather conditions, such as wet, heat and cold. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders and steep slopes, and walk around construction worksites.
Minimum Qualifications
The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:
Graduation from high school or tested equivalent and six years of building plan review, design, or combination building inspection experience; OR
An Associate's degree or 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university with major coursework in engineering, architecture, or a related field; AND four years of experience of building plan review, design, or combination building inspection experience.
Plan Checker I
Knowledge of:
Procedures and techniques of plan review.
Types of building construction materials and methods.
Codes and zoning ordinances.
Principles of site plan and architectural design review to determine compliance with appropriate State and local codes and ordinances.
Research methods and sources of information related to building code enforcement.
Office methods, procedures, software and equipment.
Principles of customer service.
Ability to:
Learn to interpret and apply pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations; apply City codes and policies regarding building and zoning.
Learn to determine if construction conforms to City code regulations.
Read and interpret blueprints, maps, engineering calculations, and project specifications.
Organize and keep records of work performed.
Operate a computer using word processing and business software and other equipment.
Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain and promote positive and effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public.
Demonstrate initiative and exercise good judgment in the performance of duties.
Learn the operation, policy and procedures of the Community Development Department.
Work independently and as a team member; recognize and set priorities and meet deadlines.
Observe safety principles and work in a safe manner.
Plan Checker II
Knowledge of:

Principles of structural design and mathematics.
Research methods and sources of information related to building code enforcement.

Effectively perform field inspections.
Detect deviations from plans, regulations and standard construction practices.
License/Certificates:
Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license or the ability to provide alternative transportation as approved by the appointing authority and a safe driving record.
Possession and continued maintenance of ICC Building Plans Examiner certification.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking on level, uneven and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard. The position also requires near and far vision when performing tasks such as field inspections, in reading written reports and work related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal customer service. The need to lift, drag, carry and push equipment, tools and supplies up to 25 pounds is also required. Additionally, when performing field inspections, the incumbent may be exposed to biohazards and work in a variety of working conditions, including mechanical and electrical hazards, loud noise, and inclement weather conditions, such as wet, heat and cold. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders and steep slopes, and walk around construction worksites.
Minimum Qualifications
The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

Graduation from high school or tested equivalent and four years of building plan review, design, or combination building inspection experience; OR
An Associate's degree or 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university with major coursework in engineering, architecture, or a related field; AND two years of experience of building plan review, design, or combination building inspection experience.
Knowledge of:
Procedures and techniques of plan review.
Types of building construction materials and methods.
Codes and zoning ordinances.
Principles of site plan and architectural design review to determine compliance with appropriate State and local codes and ordinances.
Research methods and sources of information related to building code enforcement.
Office methods, procedures, software and equipment.
Principles of customer service.
Ability to:
Learn to interpret and apply pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations; apply City codes and policies regarding building and zoning.
Learn to determine if construction conforms to City code regulations.
Read and interpret blueprints, maps, engineering calculations, and project specifications.
