Responsibilities of the Apprentice / Licensed Optician:
· Greet all patients, whether on the phone or in our office, with a helpful attitude
· Assist patients with proper frame and lens selection
· Dispense glasses and contact lenses
· Frame adjustments and repairs
· Troubleshooting eyewear
· Check patients in at the front desk, including ensuring the accurate completion of paperwork, and all necessary information scanned in
· Verify patient insurance benefits
· Answer the phone and schedule appointments
· Pre-testing patients prior to their visit with the Optometrist, including verifying patient medical history, checking visual acuity, and additional tests as specified by the OD
Skills of the Apprentice / Licensed Optician:
· Strong interpersonal skills
· Positive attitude with a passion for teamwork and the ability to multi-task
· Computer skills to include the ability to learn internal softwares
· ABO / NCLE Certification a plus
· Half day Saturday, closed Sunday, with a day off during the week

- Southcentral Foundation (SCF) Optician position is responsible for dispensing opticianry services in support of the Optometry program and serves as an Optometric Assistant to facilitate the provision of clinical Optometric care to customer-owners. The Optician position has two (2) job levels.
Progression from Optician Apprentice to Optician is required and must be attained within one (1) year or within two (2) ABO exam cycles following completion of 1800 hours as an Apprentice. Licensure requires the following:1. Successful completion of the Career Progression Program (CPP) sponsored by the National Academy of Opticianry (NAO); OR an equivalent program for spectacles. (Graduation from an Associate degree program in a recognized school for college of Opticianry may be substituted for the CPP.)2.
Successful completion of the American Board of Opticianry (ABO) exam.
