Dispensing Optician (77396)
Will dispense and fit glasses and other optical aids, to both adults and children, working from the prescriptions written by optometrists and ophthalmologists. Will also advise patients on various types of lenses and glass frames, including style, weight and colour.
Candidates must pass background check. Convictions will be reviewed on a case by case basis; convictions will not necessarily bar a candidate's employment.
We are a private optometric practice + boutique optical, located in the South Waterfront Portland and we’re looking for an enthusiastic and passionate person to join our team. An ideal candidate is someone who enjoys working with people, has great communication skills and rapport with patients. * Assist members to choose eyeglass frames and lens options appropriate to the lens prescription.
* Measures member for pupillary distance using pupilometer and observes line of sight to determine bifocal placement.
* Keys member order into computer. Places special orders to outside vendors by telephone. Rings up orders and over-the-counter merchandise.
* Checks contact lenses and completed eyeglasses against prescription prior to dispensing to the member. Fits and adjusts eyeglasses to member using frame warmer and bending with fingers.
* Orders equipment, merchandise and supplies by keying into computer. Stocks merchandise and supplies.
* Follows department procedures for standards for production, record keeping merchandising and product storage.
* Cleans department by spraying, wiping and mopping. Empties trash, operates trash compacter and cardboard bailer.
* Assists in other departments as necessary.
Massachusetts State Licensed Dispensing Optician or national certification required.
Licensed Optician preferred.

Serves as Optical Dispenser Assistant performing a limited variety of optical dispensing duties involving assisting patrons in selecting frames and making minor frame repairs. Duties and
Assists a Dispensing Optician in the performance of the following functions:
Making recommendations to patrons concerning frames, from a wide variety of colors; recommends correct size and fit based on facial structure, color of lenses, tinted or untinted, etc.
Fitting patron with finished product and making adjustment to frame, as necessary.
Making minor repairs to frames such as replacing screws, realigning and remounting lenses.
Assists in preparing Purchase Order worksheets for merchandise and for shop supplies, based on specific instructions of optical dispenser, indicates description, quantity and unit price.
Logs in Prescription Order Form. Prepares record cards by name of patron, address, type of lens, color, etc. Forwards prescription form to manufacturer for processing.
May receive manufacturer's invoice with completed ordered merchandise; compares with prescription order and prices merchandise in accordance with established procedures. In the event of discrepancy, informs supervisor and returns to manufacturer for replacement, repairing, etc. As necessary, notifies patron concerned of receipt of merchandise.
Maintains files and logs of work orders forwarded to and received from manufacturer.
Operates a cash register; collects and accounts for cash received from patrons and prepares Salesperson's Daily Report (SS/120).
Assists with monthly inventory.
Exercises tact, good manners and courtesy when serving and assisting customers. This is expressed by tactfully responding to patron inquiries and assisting patrons in a prompt and friendly manner.
