RCH Surgical Services
Scheduled Weekly Hours
Assist the nursing staff in providing an efficient, effective patient care unit through execution of non-nursing duties in the Operating Room.
Assist OR personnel by delivering surgical and culture specimens to Laboratory or X-ray as requested, as evidenced by observation.
Assists OR personnel with room turnovers, including total cleaning of rooms as necessary and upon request, as evidenced by supervisor.
Effectively and efficiently completes all assigned duties.
Maintains stock supply of clinical items on a per shift basis, e.g. organizes and maintains substerile room, replenishes warmers and maintains scrub sink areas with needed supplies, as evidenced by observation and no valid complaints.
Obtains blood products from the Blood Bank, prepares appropriate slips, calls Blood Bank for confirmation, logs appropriate time and temp and initials, returns blood by logging the appropriate information and returns to the Blood Bank in a timely manner, with no complaints to supervisor.
Prepares beds and transport carts. Ensures oxygen tank is full, linen is clean, and ambu bags or monitors and IV poles are readily available to transport, as evidenced by observation and feedback.
Responds to the needs of the department. Prioritizes and organizes assigned tasks with minimum of supervision.
All other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma/GED Equivalent in General Studies
- 1+ years of Housekeeping/Custodian Experience
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Possible exposure to blood, bodily fluids, or tissues.

- High School Graduate or GED required
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), (Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider card) required.

Orderly needed to assist medical and/or nursing staff with various routine tasks. Provides general nontechnical assistance to the nursing staff. Responsible for the general maintenance of equipment, room and supplies.
Education & Training High School Diploma
Required Licenses/Certifications: BLS
Work Experience: 1 year experience working in the OR is preferred
Physical Demands & Working Conditions: Ability to stand/walk between 6 to 8 hours and sit between 1-2 hours. Requires the motion to bend, squat, reach, lift, push, carry and pull 1/3 or more of the time. Carry and climb up to 1/3 of the time. Continuous use of hands in gross and precise motor function. Lift up to100 pounds 1/3 or more of the time. Body fluid exposure.

Provide for patient safety through ensuring that rails are up and using care during transport.
Transports patient(s) to and from the Emergency Department and Radiology Department.
Notify nurse of any observed problems or complaints.
Demonstrates competence in care of specimens and accurately handles specimens at all times.
Assists in positioning, prepping, and draping of patients as needed.
Maintains safe environment for patient, co‑workers and self, per policies and procedures.
Protects patient's sensitivities and right to privacy; closely observes patient with minimal disturbance.
Maintains effective working relationships with physicians
Certified Nurse Assistant experience.
Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
Current BLS (CPR) issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association Healthcare Provider
Minimum of six months of related work experience.
Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbal and written.
