Application Engineer / Technical Sales - Iron & Steel And Energy
Saint-Gobain Performance Ceramic and Refractories (PCR) is interested in hiring an Application Engineer to manage the sales of PCR Refractories solutions in the Iron and Steel market and in the Energy market (mainly Waste to Energy and Power). Key responsibilities will include promoting PCR solutions to customers, preparing quotes, managing projects, supervising installations, facilitating the link with the production plants, and achieving the forecasted sales, profit and asset objectives for assigned products and markets worldwide within prescribed budgetary limits. The position oversees a global enterprise operating in a highly technical and very competitive environment requiring constant innovation and thus must drive the commercial, technical, and operational planning, and be accountable for results. The role has a high degree of matrixes reporting as it has shared sites with multiple other business units as well as functional and country dimensions.
The main functions of the role include:
Manage Iron and Steel sales including Blast Furnace projects and consumable sales (70%) and Energy and Power sales (30%).
Achieve sales, contribution, and asset ratios to meet the forecast by visiting customers and providing them with product/technical solutions to their needs via quotations and proposals.
Provide required technical/marketing sales expertise to other team members, manufacturing or engineering personnel, and other international and domestic personnel to facilitate the securing of domestic orders. Use of design and analysis software to support sales activities is a requirement.
Act as the technical resource for product selection, installation method, and operational suggestions for customers as required and present proposals designed to improve their operation or secure new business by displacing competition.
Identify new opportunities and undertake product development projects designed to satisfy the requirement to ensure continued growth of sales and customer base. Serve as the new product champion and lead the development of teams. Resolve all quality and service complaints including issuing of reports.
Provide direct supervision of installation/application of assigned products at customer's facilities to ensure installation according to required instructions. Supervise distributor activities and coordinate sub-contracting of installers or products.
Provide sales forecast data, determine requirements, and champion the development of technical promotional literature. Secure competitive information to gain a competitive advantage. Assist in developing prices and pricing strategies and implement price increases.
Education: B.S. in Engineering such as Material Science, Ceramics, or Mechanical - refractory knowledge is a plus.
Experience: 3 years' experience in refractory applications – Iron and Steel refractory experience is a plus; high level of marketing, commercial and technical skills required. Computer skills are required.

Problem Solving: Knowledge and experience in applying problem solving methodologies such as Ishikawa, FMEA, etc. is a plus.

EHS – Understanding of LOTO, confined space entry, utilization of respirators of CO2 monitors (where required) – training and PPE will be provided.
Travel – Position will require travel (up to 50%) to customer facilities for sales calls and installations/trials– installations can last several consecutive days – up to 2 weeks.

I. Job Summary

Complies with and ensures adherence to Waste Management's Mission to Zero standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient operations.
Meets all financial review dates and corporate directed programs in a timely fashion.
Assists in budget process as required.
Ensures the cleanliness and maintenance of the maintenance shops through regular inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
Oversees personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, disciplining, and training employees and evaluating employee performance.
Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
Conducts and/or attends and contributes to periodic driver/safety meetings to maintain favorable working relationships among all employees and promote maximum morale, productivity, and efficiency.
Provides training and presentations as needed in a positive and professional manner.
Updates and submits required reports in a timely manner.
