Mettler-Toledo Rainin, LLC is looking for an experienced and self-motivated Packager to join our Packaging Department in our Oakland, CA headquarters. This position is responsible for inspecting packages and assembling various molded products as directed. Accepts responsibility for inspecting and assembling high quality products in accordance with verbal and written instructions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
Utilizes and follows written documentation such as drawings, BOM's department work instructions and/or verbal instruction in performing all packaging operations.
Operator will use various hand tools, fixtures and equipment in performing all packaging operations. The use and operation of semi and fully automatic equipment is part of certain job functions.
Performs harvesting and cleaning duties for all products produced.
Consolidates all rejected tips by shift's end and places them into a recycling bin.
Segregates piece count and records the rejected tips and packaging materials daily.
Ensures overall cleanliness of the production areas, products and equipment.
Reports all pertinent information to the oncoming shift personnel.
Reports problem areas encountered during the workday to the shift supervisor and or his/her delegates.
Works cooperatively with members from other departments.
Takes immediate action to ensure the work in progress is within specifications.
Follows Company safety policies as outlined in the employee handbook.
Cleans up after completing assigned jobs.
Returns all tools and fixtures to the proper location after use.
Performs daily clean-up procedures as directed.
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma and or equivalent with zero to one (1) year experience in a high volume production environment are required.

The successful candidate will have basic mechanical aptitude and able to work with hand tools and gauges. Effective verbal and written communication skills including detail orientation and accuracy in documentation is required.
Knowledge of safety standards is desirable. Candidate must be comfortable working in an environment with hazardous and non-hazardous materials. Previous experience in a chemical environment in preferred. Part Time Packager
The LA Times Manufacturing and Distribution facility is seeking a Part Time Packager who can contribute to the efforts in attaining the goals and objectives for the Newsprint Packaging Department and Operations. Must service our customers with a quality product within a timely and accurate process. In this role you will stuff inserters for insertion of preprinted materials by manually feeding unstrapped material into a hopper. Depending on bundle size may be required to feed two or more hoppers by rotating between products to be inserted.
To Perform the duties of setting-up equipment prior to each production run to reduce potential downtime and waste.
Proficient in troubleshooting minor problems of mailroom packaging equipment.
Safe and efficient operation of palletizers, stackers and tying machines.
Ability to safely operate lift equipment inclusive of forklifts, pallet jacks and rider lifts.
Flexible to work multiple positions and perform a variety of tasks related to Mailroom operations within a shift to include but not limited to: Operation of packaging equipment as described above, Hand feed pallets into palletizer, Down stacking bundles off conveyers on to either plastic or wood pallets when required. Commercial delivery area in allocating and handling of CD bundles to hand stack on pallets and stage on appropriate docks for dispatching.
Required to stand for at least four (4) consecutive hours.

Tends machine that performs one or more packaging functions such as filling, marking, labeling, banding, tying, packing, or wrapping containers by performing the following duties.
Duties and Responsibilities
Fill bags or totes to proper weight according to plant and outside agency specifications.
Ensure that the bags are properly sealed so that no powder is leaking out of seal.
Stack finished product on pallets in a neat and orderly manner to facilitate good handling of the pallets in transport.
Properly label product according to instructions including product code, lot number and any special markings.
Sample product for lab and customer and inspect powder samples for any specks and foreign matter to ensure high quality of product and prevent contamination following Standard Operating Procedures.
Maintain proper documentation of product packaged as well as rework and scrap produced to ensure accuracy of records. This includes records for metal detector checks, weight checks, equipment and utensil checks.
Inspect equipment to ensure it is in top working order, reporting any problems to the maintenance department.
Follow all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and HACCP Programs for safety of self and others as well as overall compliance.
Practice good housekeeping.
Staging ingredients, cleaning your area and assisting fellow employees in cleaning or setting up other areas and other duties, jobs and functions as assigned or required.
Clean and sanitize packaging equipment and work area to eliminate contamination sources.
Conduct proficient CIP and COP processes to ensure cleanliness of equipment.
Monitor program for packaging robot for each product.
