The Packaging Engineer will develop packaging designs for new and existing products from initial idea, approved concept and implementation into manufacturing for Thermo Fisher Scientific. This includes developing concepts, material selection, sample evaluation, structural engineering analysis, package transportation testing, creating packaging engineering standards, design verification reports and process validation reports. The packaging engineer will collaborate with design engineers, process engineers, quality engineers and project leaders to develop packaging systems for sterile and non-sterile consumable plastic products for life science, medical device, laboratory, packaging, diagnostic and consumer product markets. What will you do?
Cross Functional Project Team Member: Participate on cross functional project teams to develop product and packaging design traceability matrix, complete packaging design verification activities and present results at technical design reviews. Communicate effectively within team, to marketing and engineering management on packaging design progress.
New Package Design: Collaborate with internal customers, project teams and external suppliers from brainstorming new innovative concepts for packaging component design through technical feasibility and cost assessments using best design practices and packaging industry design standards. Translates VOC feedback into user needs and design inputs. Completes engineering analysis of designs.
Packaging Standards: Develops and uses engineering design guides and standards for common design elements. Applies packaging appropriate Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and sustainability guidelines.
Equipment Selection: Specify and select a range of standard packaging equipment. Prepare capital requests. Obtain quotes from suppliers.
Verification and Validation Testing: Conduct FAT, IQ, OQ, PQ qualifications of new equipment. Coordinate packaging ship tests per industrial standards and document results with detailed technical reports.
How will you get here?
- BS in Packaging Engineering (design option), Mechanical Engineering or related engineering degree with relevant packaging design experience
Minimum 5 years experience in package design and development
Experience in a structured product development process, design requirements and change control processes
Proficiency with packaging industry design and test standards (ISTA, ASTM, etc)
Experience in regulated industry with a knowledge of sterile barrier packaging and sterilization processes

Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Packaging Engineer will provide leadership and support for the packaging of products; from conceptualization and design, to their placement.
Analyzes current uses of boxes, foam, cartons, inserts, master cartons, overpack cartons, pallets, trucks, and transportation methods.
Implements improvements for cost reduction, efficiency, appearance, and safety.
Communicates DISH Network's needs to upstream product designers.
Works with automated equipment, box, and printed material vendors to address existing issues and find areas of opportunity.
Supports other aspects of the business through package revisions, cost improvement projects, and package simplification.
Skills - Experience and Requirements
Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Logistics Management, or other relevant degree in Business or Science, and 2-4 years of Package Engineering experience is required.
Must have understanding of package development processes and relevant Engineering principles.
Must be able to design packaging that meets the objectives of customers, manufacturing objectives, and other relevant stakeholders.
Must have proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

This position is for an IC packaging engineer with interest in developing, optimizing, qualifying IC packaging technology with a strong focus on automotive needs and a zero DPPM mindset. Work will span across packaging materials, wirebond, flipchip, WCSP packages.
Ensuring readiness for new Automotive packaging needs meeting and exceeding automotive specifications, running evaluation testchips, determining packaging related design rules, reliability testing, conducting risk assessments / FMEA and driving execution for first pass qualification and ramp success.

SCOPE OF POSITION:
As part of Packaging R&D, the Packaging Engineer will lead packaging development programs from concept to commercialization that meets the requirements of operations, distribution, marketing and sales. The primary focus will be in the area of Innovation across the Pinnacle Foods portfolio.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:
