SUMMARY: The Painter applies coats of paint; epoxy and enamel, to protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings, and other structures.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential duties and responsibilities include the following:
Grinds and prepares all parts prior to painting, blends all grind marks and weld marks smooth
Tapes off all machined surfaces
Selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.
Sets painting equipment to correct specifications
Paints surfaces using spray gun
Uses mill thickness gage to ensure proper paint coverage
Visually inspects all painted areas
Sprays machined surfaces with corrosion inhibitor
Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level.
Installs all covers on attachments using an impact and proper torque tools
Utilizes sandblast equipment to remove paint and clean attachments
Clean area at end of each day
Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to get along with customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
Attends meetings and training as necessary.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum high school diploma
2 year technical training in industrial painting preferred
2 years of industrial painting experience preferred
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, blueprints, procedures, etc.
Excellent attention to detail and problem solving skills
Knowledge of LEAN Manufacturing, 5S
Previous forklift experience required and ability to pass forklift operation test
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds

The Painter is responsible for performing a variety of duties relating to various painting skills including but not limited to; wall preparation, wall covering, wall and furniture finishing etc. Matches, mixes, thins and applies paints, stains, primers lacquers, varnishes, epoxies and other protective coverings to prepared surfaces.
Washes, scrapes, putties, sands, plasters and otherwise prepares surfaces as needed and removes old paint when necessary. Performs tile, taping and cement work. Exercises initiative and judgment in preparing work areas by removing furniture, laying drop cloths and otherwise protecting work areas and occupants from spills splatters and dust.
Ensures adequate inventory of painting supplies and materials and maintains work area in clean and orderly fashion. Estimates quantities and helps select paints, wall coverings and other materials as needed. Hangs wall paper, vinyl wall covering, wall guards and similar materials.
Must know how to mix and blend paints to obtain desired colors. Must be able to estimate time and determine appropriate types of paint to use on various surfaces.
High School Diploma or equivalent. Minimum of three years experience as a painter.

The Cabin Maintenance Painter Tech in Delta's TechOps Cabin Maintenance Hangar Operations (ATL & MSP) facility is responsible for prepping, sanding, repairing and applying surface coatings using various methods to Cabin components according to set specifications. The CMPT is responsible for processing parts according to established FAA, OEM, AA's, ER/A's and Delta Process Standard procedures in a safe, timely and defect-free manner to meet established goals in support of Cabin Maintenance operations.
Must have the ability to interpret Engineering; AA's, drawings and instructions. Must have quantifiable experience with removal and installation of interior cabin furnishings and components for repair or refinish, laminating cabin surfaces to include compound curved walls, Sky Diamond laminate, ability to mix, match and apply paint to cabin surfaces. Reads and complies with approved documentation.
Additionally, this position lays out, masks cabin components using repair manuals, drawings and patterns. The CMPT must also possess basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic disciplines as they apply to aircraft systems. The CMPT will also work ASM duties as directed.
Must achieve a satisfactory score on tests structured to determine the ability to perform essential job junctions. Strips, sands, and prepares aircraft painting using various methods including spray paint using water base, enamel, and polyurethane base. Responsible for properly disposing of all waste and cleans work area upon completion.
Must meet the physical requirements which qualify a person to perform essential job functions. Certain duties require working in confided spaces. Must be able to prioritize work load for Paint and Laminate crew.
The Cabin Maintenance Painter Tech position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Documented surface coating experience is required. 5 years applicable experience required.
Must be able to read and write English and be able to comprehend and apply information contained in technical manuals. Must demonstrate a willingness to practice safe work habits as evidenced through behavior and attitude. Must be willing to work fixed shifts including weekends and nights. As a member of the Assembly department, the Aerospace Painter coats the surface of aerospace parts, assemblies, and finished products with protective or decorative coatings such as paint, primer, varnish, enamel, or lacquer using HVLP spray gun. The Painter provides the department with support in maintaining existing campus facilities to ensure a safe, comfortable and functional environment for learning and working. This position provides support in painting, refinishing and maintaining various surfaces through planned preventative maintenance schedules as well as providing immediate support for the removal of graffiti or other acts of vandalism.
1.Cosmetic Maintenance & Painting
A. Paints the interior and exterior of buildings, facilities, and equipment.
B. Prepares walls, tapes sheetrock walls, cleans (manually or with pressurized water blaster), plasters, sands, and textures as needed in order to match different surfaces/finishes;
C. Varnishes floors, cabinets and doors;
D. Refinishes furniture;
E. Paints signs and sets-up vinyl letter signs (for windows, vehicles, etc.), paints parking lots, crosswalks, curbs and bleachers;
F. Prepares work area: barricades area, tapes-off; lays paper/linen drop cloths;
G. Responds to reactive work orders to cover graffiti or other vandalism, or other cosmetic related assignments;
H. Assists with the repair of plaster, wood, drywall, stucco, and ceiling tiles for the purpose of maintaining and preserving facilities;
I. Assists with other facilities maintenance work orders and projects as needed.
2.Safety and Training
A. Follows OSHA, College, State and Federal standards and operates tools and equipment safely;
B. Participates in required, monthly safety training meetings; participates in equipment operation training, as appropriate.
3.Equipment Operation and Maintenance
A. Maintains sprayers, air compressors, brushes, and tools. Ensures equipment is cleaned appropriately at the end of each shift;
B. Maintains provided service vehicle.
4.Recordkeeping and Administrative Work
A. Retrieves work orders from the automated system; closes work orders promptly and with comments about what was done.
B. Ensures that all work performed is documented on a work order form.
5.Risk Management & Stewardship of College Property
All employees in Facilities Services are expected to protect and maintain all College property and the people who come to SMC to learn, live, work and visit. Therefore, the following are required:
A) Proactively identify, report or resolve any and all safety issues as quickly as possible;
B) Proactively identify issues related to code compliance and report them to the appropriate supervisor or Director as soon as possible;
C) Ensure the campus is clean and orderly; return furnishings and other equipment to their places when moved by members of the community or after scheduled events;
D) Take care to ensure College property is not compromised due to propped doors, broken locks, or left out in the rain or weather. Work proactively to reduce opportunities for theft and vandalism;
E) Ensure that our campus facilities achieve the greatest amount of "uptime," meaning all services and utilities provided shall have minimal disruption in service. Disruptions in service shall be well-planned with constituent groups and result in the least impact to the campus.
6.Other Duties as Assigned
A. Assists the facilities maintenance supervisor in the identification of needs for the preventative maintenance program & schedule, and assists with the estimating of projects and jobs in terms of time and materials;
B. Assists with campus and/or facility clean-up;
C. Assists with minor facilities repairs/projects;

Experience and Qualifications
REQUIRED: High School Graduate or GED
Experience: (years required and applicable field of experience): Minimum of two years painting experience. Experience with gas, diesel, and electric powered high-pressure sand and water blasting and painting equipment; masking machines; personal protective equipment; portable air compressors, lift and areal boom trucks; spill prevention, and various hand tools such as electric sanders and dust recovery systems, ladders, brushes, and rollers.
Skills/Abilities: (e.g. computer skills, written & verbal skills, trades, laws, procedures, technical) Must be able to climb ladders, reach, stoop, bend, push, twist and kneel. Must be able to read, write and speak English.
Licenses & Certifications (e.g. CPA, RN, etc.): REQUIRED:
Valid California Driver License is required. Able to be insured by the College's insurance carrier is required.
(e.g. travel, weekend/evening work) The Facilities Services department operates 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Therefore, swing, weekend, and emergency shifts are required. Facilities Services employees are considered critical employees and will be required to assist the College in the event of campus emergencies.
