Friday This position supports both the maintenance and burial goals of the cemeteries operation. Technical skill as well as knowledge of basic landscaping practices and equipment operation are desired for this position. The Senior Laborer position is responsible for active participation in the safe and efficient operation of a variety of equipment such as tractors, dump trailers, mowing equipment, string trimmers, edger's, backpack blowers, hedge trimmers and chain saws and various other hand tools. Work varies in the care and maintenance of cemetery grounds, operating equipment on various terrains and weather conditions, assisting with opening and closing of graves, and similar activities. This job is subject to rotating weekend shifts, stand-by-recall, overtime, working holidays and/or call back for emergencies and during all types of weather conditions. Duties/Responsibilities
This positions shares in a weekend rotation and involves frequent weekend, holiday and after hour work.
Requires good clear communication with all levels of our division as well as the public. Work is performed onsite at the cemetery and customers may approach crew members in the field for assistance.
Safely operates dump truck, tractor with attachments, lawnmower, weedeater, vehicles, power tools, and hand tools to perform burials, landscape maintenance, work request, or other projects.
Assist in preparing foundations for monuments, and installing or resetting markers.
Assists with burial services including opening and closing the burial site, pre and post site checks and cleanup, assisting with setup and break down of equipment, laying plywood running boards, leading in services, parking cars, and acting as pallbearer as needed.
This position plays an active role in disinterments as needed.
Performs preventative maintenance of equipment and tools by conducting inspections, cleaning components, monitoring fluids, performing basic corrective repairs. May also perform repairs or assist with repairs on small engines and mowers.
Submits written daily work logs, attends required staff meetings, safety training and reports absence in advance to supervisor and through an electronic records management tool. Minimum Qualifications & Experience
High School or GED.
One or more years of related experience
NC Class C Driver's License.
This position is critical to emergency operations and will report to work in spite of or because of an emergency or disaster event. Additional Preferred Skills
Cemetery or landscaping experience.
Ability to back a tractor with trailer.

position at Borthwick Mortuary & Crematory
in Honolulu, HI. This is the opportunity to be part of the Dignity Memorial® provider network and grow your career in the funeral, cremation and cemetery services business. The ideal candidate will be responsible for carrying out tasks as assigned by management. Depending on the location, these tasks can range from serving client families during funerals and visitations to assisting in removals and transfers to general cleaning and upkeep of the building both inside and outside. The foregoing duties are intended as examples and not limitations on the functions of this position. Provide support under the direction of the Funeral Director. Specific tasks assigned may include, but not be limited to the following:
Directs or escorts mourners to parlors or chapels in which wakes or funerals are being held
Greets people at the funeral home
Offers assistance to mourners as they enter or exit limousines
Acts as a pallbearer
Arranges floral offerings or lights around caskets
Carries flowers to hearses or limousines for transportation to places of interment
Cleans and drives funeral vehicles in funeral processions
Performs a variety of tasks during funerals and visitations to assist funeral directors and ensures that services run smoothly as planned
Places caskets in parlors or chapels prior to wakes or funerals
Cleans funeral parlors and chapels
Assists licensed embalmers or apprentices with removals and transfers of the deceased to the designated location
Ensures all SCI policies and procedures are carried out for each removal and transfer
Requirements & Qualifications
High school education or equivalent or relevant work experience would be a definite asset
Funeral industry experience would also be a plus
Must hold valid current license to perform duties, operate crematory, drive a car or hearse
Previous customer service and/or sales experience would be a definite asset
Knowledge of computers and some software would be an asset, or willingness to learn
Good driving record & must provide a driver’s license
