Reports to: Pattern Shop Supervisor
To complete foundry patterns and mounting of risers, gates and vents to produce a sound casting. Complete other tooling repairs and rigging. Work from instructions, orders, drawings and observations to make patterns from metal, wood and other materials.
Scope: Reports to the pattern shop supervisor and works closely with molding supervisor and production management personnel.
Primary Job duties:
Repair and rigging of new and existing production patterns and tooling.

Primary Departmental Duties:

Wood working and/or metal working.

Print reading is helpful, but not required.

Pattern Maker Assistant
Nidec Minster Corporation's Pattern Shop provides pattern and prototype products and services to the foundry industry as well as Minster's own gray and ductile iron foundry. The current openings are a result of planned growth and the introduction of new technology, methods and materials. The basic function is as follows: A Pattern Set-up person will perform condition changes to patterns, repair patterns as required, and provide support to our Journeyman Patternmakers. In addition, this position is to provide support as needed for pattern set-up for our metal castings operation that will include delivery of patterns, set-up of rapid turnaround patterns in our foundry operation, gating set-up, prototypes, Styrofoam and low volume production. This work will be completed in the pattern shop, foundry, pattern storage facilities and occasional travel to vendor locations. A working knowledge of equipment used in pattern making and pattern repair is required.
Retrieve and set-up patterns, core boxes and gating for production using trucks, forklifts etc...at all locations.
Complete work timely to ensure deliveries are made on time.
Understand and apply quality standards to ensure pattern performs as intended.
Perform pre-work and post work duties to support Journeyman Pattern Makers.
Identify, patch and repair existing patterns to improve assembly issues.
Operate equipment used in the production and repair of patterns made from a variety of materials.
Reading of blue prints and the use of basic measuring instruments is required.
This position is anticipated to be a prelude to a Pattern Maker Apprentice. Sets up, operates and adjusts a variety of photolithographic production equipment used to perform required operations and tests on production parts with optical patterns. Additionally sets up and operates manual, and computer controlled equipment, such as coat, deposition, cleaning, and similar photolithographic equipment used in optical applications.
Works under general direction and from production schedules, manufacturing procedures, process, and written or oral instruction. Use knowledge of photolithographic process to perform production of optical patterned parts.
Operates and carefully adjusts parts and materials into fixture with proper alignment for operations.
Use manual and computer controlled equipment to apply pattern and deposition masks on optical parts to ensure proper placement of materials.
Works in cleanroom with delicate optical components which are highly sensitive, precise and require special handling.
Performs metal lift off and etch processes to create micron sized features.
Uses gages, microscope, electronic instruments and small tools to check dimensions, handle materials and prepare parts for subsequent operations.
For processing of optical patterned parts; uses small hand tools, scales and measures, mixes materials for processes according to production specifications. Set up certain processing units according to process specifications and instructions. Processes performed are one or more of the following: acid and solvent cleaning, coating, baking, etching, exposing, developing, stripping and aligning.
