- Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements
- Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures
- Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)
- Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded
- Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces
- Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)
- Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps
- Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws
- Proven experience as welder
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA etc.)
- Experience in using electrical or manual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
- Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.)
- Deftness and attention to detail
- Proficient in English

Must be capable of wearing respirators.
Must be able to lift, unaided, 50 pounds.

The Arizona Exposition and State Fair (AESF) is seeking a highly-skilled Welder to join our amazing, growing crew. In this position, you will work to perform journey level welding work in fabrication, repair, and/or modification of various equipment and structures on-site to complete jobs on time and in budget. You will layout, fit, and fabricate metal components to assemble structural forms using knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and engineering requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Fabricate various equipment and structures based on plans, blueprints, sketches, and/or verbal instructions, using the appropriate tools, materials, and welding techniques/procedures;
Repair and recondition various heavy construction equipment using appropriate materials and welding techniques and procedures; Repair various structures and structural components using appropriate materials and welding techniques and procedures;
Review plans and diagrams to ensure accuracy of cutting materials to create sign parts;
Plan and coordinate sheet metal projects to ensure department meets expectations and deadlines;
Operate metal cutting equipment to accurately cut materials to job specifications; plan, prepare, and use materials to be cut in a matter to keep waste minimum;
Design various equipment/structures and/or modifications to equipment/structures, based on the special needs of users, determining materials/supplies needed and estimating time and costs for completing the project;
Maintain inventory of materials and supplies needed;
- Prepare reports and maintain records of work performed;
NOTE: This position requires flexibility with work and varied work schedules to include working long extended hours and holidays. Ability to read blueprints;

Good time management skills required.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Weld metal components together with brazing and variety of arc and gas welding equipment to fabricate or repair products such as machine parts, plant equipment, structures, motors, and generators by performing the following duties.
- Arc welding (stick), MIG, TIG, air-arc, oxygen-acetylene torch, pipe fabrication, valves, flanges, angle iron, flat stock, structural steel, pressure vessels, steam lines, 150# and 300# installations, etc.
- Welds metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes.
- Performs related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding.
- Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and increases size of metal parts.
- Positions and clamps together components of fabricated metal products preparatory to welding.
- Lay out pipe installations, valves, flanges, etc. for neatness and functionality.
- Possess the ability to read blueprints, P&D drawing, etc. to make installations.
- Be available for call-ins and breakdown repairs.
- Certificate of completion of accredited welding program.
