Work with a minimum direction and periodic supervision. Physical Functions Ability to stand and/or walk for up to 8 hours. Assists in providing support to local law enforcement officials at accident sites; assists stranded motorists as required.
Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic.
Maintains a daily activity of work in progress and status of completion.
Drives to move/pick up litter and roadway debris.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
The required competencies for this job include:
The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices
Basic vehicle mechanics, maintenance and repair procedures
Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines and specification codes
The use of applicable hand and power tools, equipment and mechanical devices of the trade
The use of heavy highway equipment
The use of light highway equipment
Maintaining a safe working relationship
Follow verbal and written instructions
Move up to 50 pounds and occasionally move up to 100 pounds (See job requisition essential duties/remarks for examples of items to be moved.)
This job requires the following:
- None in formal education
This job requires the following:
1 year in Engineering support, maintenance, construction, heavy equipment operation or roadway maintenance work. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent)
No supervisory experience required.
Licenses and Certifications
The following License and Certifications are required for this job:
Valid Driver's License at time of application (Commercial Class "A" Driver License is required within 90 days of hire)
Safety Impact Certificate
Commercial Driver Certificate
Safety Impact and Commercial Driver certifications are not required at the time of application. The Safety Impact and Commercial driver certifications will be issued by TxDOT at the time of hire.
- This position is Safety Impact and will be subject to random drug testing.
Conditions of Employment
Must have or obtain within 90 calendar days from date of employment a Commercial Driver License Class A with an N Endorsement
Required to work weekends and holidays.
Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
Required to work under exposure to inclement weather conditions.
Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by employer and comply with all safety requirements.
Must be able to report for duty within 45 minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis.
Must attend work regularly and observe approved work hours.
